The Making of Kooky Kolle

The story behind Kooky Kolle, her dream pet and her side-kick Kage

Kooky Kolle first came to life when I was working as a nanny. Every night, the children I looked after would say, “Patch, tell us a story before bed!

Fed up with reading the same storybooks over and over, I started to make up my own stories. One night, I told them about a kooky little girl who dreamed of having a pet koala of her very own.

Kolle loved animals. She even had a pet lizard, but her dream pet was a koala. She loved koalas so much that she was determined to have one as a pet!

To my surprise, the story became an instant favourite. The children wanted to hear it every single night.

Even after I left that job, the story of little kooky Kolle stayed with me. i didn't say it as often but i would sometimes write little notes on my phone or think of different adventures Kolle would get up in her normal kooky fashion.

Three years after i first came up with the idea of kooky kolle, my cousins encouraged me to start writing again, something I’d always loved but never really pursued seriously. I didn’t know where to begin, but I decided to follow my dream of one day being a published author and when in search of an illustrator, and luckily, I found the wonderfully talented Mentari.

Mentari took my ideas and instructions and brought Kolle to life just as I imagined her — with her big, sparkling green eyes, her favorite coat, and of course, her lovable sidekick, Kage.

And just like that, Kooky Kolle stepped out of my imagination and into the world.
